Police have arrested a 43-year-old woman in Yarrabilba, Queensland, on charges of attempted murder following a distressing incident involving a 10-year-old girl. The Queensland Police Service disclosed that the woman allegedly poisoned herself and the young girl, who was known to her, on March 12, leading to severe sickness and vomiting for both.

The incident was brought to the attention of the authorities on March 16, prompting the Logan District Child Protection Investigation Unit to initiate Operation Yankee Streethawk. Both individuals were urgently transported to Logan Hospital; the child was treated and released the same day, while the woman remained under medical care until her recent discharge into police custody.

The suspect has been formally charged with one count of attempted murder classified as a domestic violence offence. She is currently held in custody and is scheduled to appear before the Beenleigh Magistrates Court on May 12.

The Queensland Police have used this case to remind the public of the seriousness of domestic and family violence, urging anyone with knowledge or experience of such situations to come forward. They have also provided information on several support and counselling services available for those affected by domestic violence.

This includes DVConnect Womensline, DVConnect Mensline, 1800 RESPECT, and 13YARN, offering a range of services from emergency support to counseling. The police emphasize the importance of reporting such incidents promptly to ensure safety and provide necessary interventions.
