Police in Queensland are urgently seeking information following a violent car theft in Chinchilla on the evening of April 5, 2026. A man, reportedly armed and dangerous, forcibly entered a residence on Gormley Street at around 11:40 PM, threatening the occupants with a weapon to hand over their car keys.

The assailant then escaped in a stolen 2019 silver Toyota Landcruiser, Queensland registration 048YZM, causing property damage by driving through a fence as he fled towards the main township. Fortunately, there were no physical injuries reported among the residents during the incident.

This event appears to be part of a larger pattern of vehicular thefts, as authorities link the suspect to three additional car thefts in the Darling Downs area that occurred the preceding Saturday. A stolen SsangYong Musso related to these incidents was found nearby. However, the silver Toyota Landcruiser remains missing and was last spotted in Toowoomba at 10:00 AM on April 6.

The Queensland Police Service (QPS) is actively investigating and has issued a public appeal for anyone with information or relevant footage to come forward. Citizens are advised not to approach the suspect or the vehicle but to report sightings immediately to the police. Contacts for reporting include Policelink and Crime Stoppers, with options for anonymous tips. The reference number for this case is QP2600669123.

As the search continues, community safety and swift justice remain the priority for the Queensland Police.
