In a significant law enforcement operation near Townsville, police have successfully apprehended eight individuals following the recovery of a stolen police vehicle earlier today, April 6, 2026. The incident unfolded after officers responded to reports of multiple vehicle thefts in the area around 11 am.

The operation escalated when a police vehicle, left unoccupied on the Bruce Highway at Alligator Creek, was commandeered by some of the suspects after police deployed a tyre deflation device to stop two of the stolen vehicles. Despite the initial chaos, police tracked and located the stolen police vehicle abandoned on Beatrice Street in Aitkenvale by 12:23 pm, fortunately with no items reported missing.

Among the vehicles recovered were a blue 2020 Ford Ranger, a grey 2019 BMW, an orange 2025 LDV T60 utility, and a white 2021 MG. The suspects, including a 19-year-old man, an 18-year-old woman, and six juveniles, are currently assisting with police inquiries. The ongoing investigations aim to uncover further details about the thefts and prevent future incidents.
