Queensland police have charged four teenagers after a stolen Mazda 3 was intercepted at Surfers Paradise on the Gold Coast on April 1. The white 2022 hatchback was reported stolen from a unit complex car park on Station Road, Woodridge, between 3am and 10am on March 28. Officers later sighted the vehicle travelling along Hamilton Avenue shortly before 8pm. Police tracked the car from the air before deploying a tyre deflation device on Ferny Avenue at about 8.50pm. The vehicle was abandoned and its four occupants fled on foot before officers arrested them nearby. A 17-year-old Marsden boy faces charges including fraud, unlawful use of a motor vehicle, attempted enter dwelling and evasion. A 15-year-old Marsden girl, a 17-year-old Ripley girl and a 16-year-old Nerang boy also face charges relating to the vehicle and other alleged offences. The Marsden boy was due to appear at Southport Children’s Court on April 2, while the other three were scheduled to appear on April 8. Police said the arrests form part of Operation Yankee Forge, a statewide initiative targeting high-harm and high-volume offences.
