Queensland police have charged a 37-year-old Dimbulah man over the death of a 70-year-old man whose remains were found at a Stock Road property last week.

Police said officers conducting a welfare check were called to the property at about 8 p.m. on March 24 and located human remains in the yard. Detectives allege the two men knew each other and were involved in an altercation at the property on the evening of March 23.

The accused was taken into custody in Mareeba at about 2 p.m. on March 31. He has been charged with murder, identified as a domestic violence offence, and misconduct with a corpse by interfering, also classified as a domestic violence offence.

The man was remanded in custody and was due to appear in Mareeba Magistrates Court on April 1. Police have urged anyone with information to contact Policelink or Crime Stoppers, quoting reference number QP2600586440.
