In a proactive effort to curb antisocial behavior, Queensland Police are intensifying their community engagement and patrols in Peregian Springs and Coolum. This initiative, led by officers from the Coolum Police Station, aims to ensure safety in areas frequented by young people such as local shopping precincts and parks. Senior Sergeant Joel Bryant, Acting Officer in Charge of the Coolum Police Station, emphasized the positive nature of most police interactions in these areas. He highlighted the importance of community cooperation, particularly the role of parents in setting behavioral standards. “Community safety starts in the home. By setting clear expectations and being aware of their children’s activities, parents can play a crucial role in keeping our neighborhoods safe,” Bryant stated. The police efforts include the use of handheld metal detectors, known as wanding under Jack’s Law, to check for knives and other weapons during their patrols. This measure is part of broader strategies aimed at preventing youth from engaging in criminal activities and directing them towards positive community involvement. As the school holidays approach, residents can expect heightened police visibility across the Sunshine Coast District. This continuous presence is part of a district-wide strategy to maintain safety and deter potential antisocial behavior. The police are also encouraging the public to report any suspicious activities through Policelink or Crime Stoppers, ensuring that community members are active participants in their safety initiatives.
