In a recent string of property crimes in Far North Queensland, local police have demonstrated remarkable resilience and effectiveness in apprehending offenders involved in vehicle theft and robbery. This operation is part of the six-month-long “Operation Yankee Forge,” aimed at curbing high-volume offenses across the state. The Queensland Police Service (QPS) reported that on March 19, a 22-year-old man from Yorkeys Knob was arrested after stealing an Audi station wagon with a border collie inside from a Mount Sheridan shopping center parking lot. The dog was safely recovered and returned to its owner later that same day. Following a pursuit involving a tire deflation device, the stolen vehicle was retrieved, albeit damaged. Adding to the successful streak, Police Dog Elvis played a crucial role by locating two 18-year-olds suspected of stealing a Nissan QashQai in Cairns. Both were discovered hiding in water under another parked vehicle and were subsequently arrested. On another occasion, PD Elvis located a 35-year-old man related to the theft of a Subaru Outback, leading to his arrest on charges of unlawful use of a motor vehicle and contravening a direction. Operation Yankee Forge, led by district authorities and supported by specialist squads, focuses on reducing the incidence of robbery, unlawful entry, and unauthorized vehicle use. The initiative emphasizes enhanced visibility of police forces and coordination with partner agencies to ensure that high-harm offenders are held accountable. This approach not only aims to disrupt and prevent crime but also to bolster community safety across Queensland. The QPS urges anyone with information on such crimes to contact them directly or through anonymous channels like Crime Stoppers. The community’s cooperation is pivotal in sustaining the momentum of these law enforcement efforts. Post navigation Witnesses Sought in Murrumba Crash
