Officers from various units of the Queensland Police including the Cairns Property Crime Unit, Far North Tactical Crime Squad, and the Far North Dog Squad, have apprehended ten teenagers involved in multiple vehicle thefts and related crimes in Cairns. The incidents, which took place between March 12 and March 13, involved the theft of several vehicles and culminated in a series of dramatic police interventions. The teens reportedly engaged in erratic driving across Cairns in stolen vehicles including a Toyota Rav4, a white Chery Omoda, a Mazda BT50, and a Holden Trax. It was during this spree that the Rav4 was used to ram a police vehicle on James Street, fortunately without causing injuries. Police employed tyre deflation devices to stop the vehicles after which they were abandoned by the suspects. The series of arrests began on the afternoon of March 12 when three youths were discovered in bushland after fleeing from the Rav4. The apprehensions continued into the early hours of March 13, concluding with the capture of seven boys found hiding in a backyard by the Dog Squad. The charges laid against these teenagers range from unlawful use of a motor vehicle to more severe allegations like dangerous operation of a vehicle and entering a dwelling to commit a crime. These events are part of a broader crackdown under Operation Yankee Forge, a six-month initiative aimed at reducing crime and improving safety in Queensland communities. Since the beginning of the operation on February 27, Far North Police have charged 87 individuals with a variety of serious offenses, underscoring the ongoing efforts to curb vehicle-related crimes and other criminal activities in the region. Authorities encourage anyone with information about suspicious activities to contact Policelink or report anonymously via Crime Stoppers. This community cooperation is crucial as local law enforcement continues to combat crime and ensure public safety. Post navigation Tragic Double Murder in Belivah
