Two teenage boys have been charged following a distressing armed robbery incident involving a 13-year-old victim in Southport on the evening of March 15. The confrontation occurred on a local tram, Queensland Police reported. According to police, at around 10 p.m., the young victim was traveling alone when he was accosted by two other boys. The assailants, wielding a knife, threatened the boy and forcibly took his necklace and jumper before fleeing the scene at the Southport tram stop. Fortunately, the victim was not physically harmed during the ordeal. Quick response from the police led to the arrest of the suspects shortly after the incident. The officers located the duo at Queen Street, Southport, around 10:07 p.m., where they were found in possession of the stolen items and the weapon used in the robbery. A subsequent search confirmed the recovery of the victim’s belongings and the seizure of the knife. Legal proceedings are set to follow, with a 16-year-old from Ashmore facing multiple charges including armed robbery, possession of a knife in a public place, and going armed to cause fear. His accomplice, a 15-year-old from New South Wales, has been charged with armed robbery. Both are expected to appear in the Southport Children’s Court on March 18.
