Early this morning, a serious traffic incident occurred on the M1 in Yatala, involving a head-on collision between two vehicles. The Queensland Police Service’s Forensic Crash Unit is currently investigating the crash that took place at around 3 am.

A brown Mazda CX7, traveling southbound in the northbound lanes, collided with a white Kia Sportage. The impact of the crash resulted in significant injuries to both drivers. The 44-year-old female driver of the Kia was transported to Gold Coast University Hospital with non-life-threatening injuries. Conversely, the 28-year-old male driver of the Mazda is in critical condition at the same hospital.

The northbound section of the M1 at Yatala remains closed as investigations continue, with traffic being rerouted onto Computer Road. Authorities are appealing to anyone who may have witnessed the incident or has relevant footage to come forward to assist with the ongoing investigation.
