In a significant crackdown on road safety violations, Queensland Police have charged 147 individuals with 221 offences as part of Operation Xray Ziggy. This targeted four-month operation, spanning from November 1 to February 28, focused on enhancing road safety across the Southern Region, including Ipswich, Darling Downs, and South West Districts. During the operation, police conducted 12,223 Roadside Breath Tests (RBTs) and 108 Roadside Drug Tests (RDTs). The tests resulted in the detection of 33 drink drivers and 41 drug drivers. Additionally, police issued 491 traffic infringement notices, with 170 of those specifically for speeding violations. These efforts were part of a larger initiative involving Highway Patrol, Tactical Crime Units, and support from General Duty officers and plain clothes police. Among the notable incidents, a 45-year-old man from Birkdale was caught driving at 131km/h in a 100km/h zone on the Warrego Highway at Chinchilla. After testing, he was found to have a breath alcohol concentration of 0.243 percent and subsequently faced legal actions in the Chinchilla Magistrates Court on February 5. Another case involved a 38-year-old woman from Coolana, who tested positive for drugs during a roadside test in Plainland and was summoned to appear in Gatton Magistrates Court. Acting Assistant Commissioner Doug McDonald expressed disappointment over the continued reckless driving behaviors, emphasizing the devastating impact of road accidents on families, communities, and emergency responders. He urged the community to treat driving with the responsibility it demands, to prevent further tragedies. As of March 13, the operation’s conclusion coincides with a somber statistic: 52 lives lost on Queensland roads this year, highlighting the ongoing challenge in road safety enforcement and community awareness. The Queensland Police Service remains committed to reducing these numbers and ensuring safer roads for all. Post navigation Charges Filed in Inala Stabbing Hermit Park: Weapon & Drug Arrest
