In a rapid response to a series of criminal incidents in Townsville and Mareeba, Queensland Police have apprehended a 28-year-old man and a 24-year-old woman. The arrests followed a sequence of events between February 28 and March 8, culminating in a dramatic capture in nearby bushland. The crime spree began on March 7, when the accused allegedly threatened two individuals with a metal bar at an Atherton transfer station, subsequently stealing their blue Toyota Yaris. The vehicle involved in the crimes, a silver Holden Commodore, was later discovered abandoned. In a related incident on March 8, police deployed a tyre deflation device to halt the stolen Toyota Yaris, leading to the arrests. Charges against the suspects include multiple counts of stealing and dangerous operation of a motor vehicle, among others. Both individuals are currently held in custody and appeared in the Mareeba Magistrates Court on March 9. Queensland Police are continuing their investigation and have issued an appeal for witnesses. They are particularly interested in dashcam footage from the Atherton or Mareeba area dated between March 6 and March 8. Information can be reported anonymously to Crime Stoppers or through Policelink’s online services. Post navigation Urgent Flood Emergency Alert Issued
