In a significant development on the Gold Coast, a 15-year-old boy has been charged with possession of violent extremism material and child exploitation content, following a coordinated effort by local and counter-terrorism units. The arrest was made after a search operation by the Gold Coast Child Protection and Investigation Unit (CPIU) on September 8, 2025.

Detectives from the CPIU, along with the Counter Terrorism Investigation Unit, further investigated the teenager, leading to serious charges under the Commonwealth Criminal Code on February 28, 2026. Despite the severe nature of the accusations, the juvenile has been granted bail and is scheduled to appear in Southport Children’s Court on March 25, 2026.

Detective Superintendent Chris Ahearn of the South Eastern Regional Crime Coordination emphasized the Queensland Police Service’s (QPS) dedication to addressing such threats. He stated, “Everyone in Queensland has a right to feel safe. The QPS is well positioned to monitor and assess both individuals and groups who may pose a threat to the safety and security of all Queenslanders.”

The QPS continues its commitment to community safety, actively engaging with diverse societal groups to enhance relationships and build community trust. The public is urged to report any hate crimes or serious vilification incidents to the authorities. The QPS collaborates closely with state and federal agencies to effectively understand, investigate, and respond to any form of extremism.
