Within just five days of its inception, the Tablelands Property Crime Unit (PCU) has made significant strides in curbing local crime, resulting in 19 individuals being charged with over 52 offenses. This newly established unit, comprising local detectives and general duties police, focuses on investigating and disrupting crimes such as burglaries, vehicle thefts, and other theft-related activities in the region. The majority of the charges were levied against 15 young individuals who were implicated in 36 property-related crimes, while four adults faced 16 similar charges. Notably, two young boys from Atherton, aged 11 and 13, were apprehended following a burglary on February 10, leading to multiple charges including entering a dwelling with intent to commit an offense. Detective Inspector Jason Chetham expressed optimism about the early successes of the unit, highlighting the advantage of having a team with profound local knowledge dedicated to property crimes. “These officers have hit the ground running and are using their local knowledge to prevent and disrupt offending across the region,” he stated. Chetham further emphasized the role of the PCU in consolidating information about property offenders, which aids in reducing crime and enhancing community safety. The Queensland Police encourages anyone with information about suspicious activities to contact Policelink or report anonymously via Crime Stoppers. The community’s cooperation remains crucial in aiding police efforts to maintain safety and order. Post navigation Tragedy Strikes Spring Mountain
