Zelenskyy Lauds Norway’s Steadfast Support

During a recent joint press conference with Norwegian Prime Minister Jonas Gahr Støre, Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy expressed profound gratitude towards Norway for its unwavering support amid ongoing conflicts. The conference highlighted several key areas of collaboration between the two nations, notably in defense and energy sectors.

President Zelenskyy praised Norway for its significant role as “one of the strongest defenders of life in Ukraine,” acknowledging the substantial energy assistance and investment Norway has contributed, especially through the PURL initiative. This program has notably facilitated Ukraine in acquiring air defense systems, with investments amounting to $970 million to date. The Ukrainian leader emphasized the critical impact of such support in helping the country withstand harsh winters, which he accused Russia of weaponizing against the Ukrainian people.

The discussions also covered future joint projects, particularly in energy and weapons production, underlining the strategic partnership that has evolved between Ukraine and Norway since the conflict began. President Zelenskyy pointed out the importance of continued collaboration in these areas, which are vital not only for Ukraine but also for the broader security of Europe. Additionally, both leaders discussed the ongoing diplomatic efforts involving trilateral meetings with the United States and Russia, aiming to further coordinate with European partners.

In his closing remarks, President Zelenskyy thanked Norway for its role in supporting sanctions against Russia, and for the provision of NASAMS (National Advanced Surface to Air Missile System) to Ukraine. He expressed hope for future cooperation that could potentially lead to joint weapons production, highlighting the strategic importance of such endeavors for continental security.
