First Lady of Ukraine, Olena Zelenska, recently addressed a significant audience at the Justice Conference in Kyiv, urging global leaders and communities to intervene and restore justice for children suffering amid ongoing Russian aggressions. The conference focused on the plight of young Ukrainians, particularly those abducted or displaced due to the conflict.

Since the full-scale invasion by Russia four years ago, children’s lives in Ukraine have been overshadowed by war, with many born and spending their early years in bomb shelters. Zelenska highlighted the psychological and physical impacts on these children, emphasizing the need for international support to address these injustices. “Their entire lives have passed under the sound of air raid sirens,” Zelenska stated, pointing out the urgency of the situation.

A pivotal part of the conference detailed the efforts of the ‘Bring Kids Back UA’ initiative spearheaded by the Ukrainian President. Discussions at the event covered strategies to enhance international pressure on Russia and develop effective mechanisms for the safe return and rehabilitation of abducted children. Zelenska also showcased ongoing efforts within Ukraine, including expanding psychological support and the development of reintegration programs for affected children.

In her poignant conclusion, Zelenska stressed the importance of justice in healing and rebuilding the lives of young victims. “It is impossible to compensate children for the years of childhood stolen by Russia’s war. But we must at least try to heal their wounds,” she remarked, underscoring the role of global justice in restoring hope and trust among the youngest survivors of the conflict.
