A shocking incident of wilful damage unsettled Brisbane’s community when a man rammed the gates of a Margaret Street place of worship with his vehicle. The Queensland Police Service (QPS) responded promptly to the event, which took place around 7:16 PM on February 20, 2026.

According to QPS Media, a black Toyota Hilux utility was involved in the incident. The vehicle inflicted significant damage before fleeing the scene. However, authorities managed to locate the vehicle shortly after the incident and detained the driver without further complications. Fortunately, there were no injuries reported from the event.

The driver, a 32-year-old man from Sunnybank, is facing multiple charges including wilful damage relating to serious vilification or hate crime, dangerous operation of a vehicle, possession of dangerous drugs, and possession of drug paraphernalia. He is scheduled to appear before the Brisbane Magistrates Court today.

QPS continues to investigate the circumstances surrounding the incident but believes the man acted alone, posing no further threat to the community. In light of the event, QPS reaffirmed its commitment to ensuring the safety of all community members and maintaining strong ties with local religious groups.
