A 17-year-old provisional license holder was caught speeding at nearly double the limit on the Sunshine Motorway in Mountain Creek, resulting in severe penalties, Queensland Police reported. The incident occurred just after midnight on Friday, January 31.

During a routine patrol, police detected a vehicle speeding at 189km/h in a zone limited to 100km/h. The young driver was pulled over and subsequently fined $1854 for the major speeding violation. This penalty includes an automatic six-month suspension of their license and an imposition of eight demerit points. Further charges included a $322 fine for a defective vehicle and a $267 fine for failing to display the required P-plates.

Queensland Police have reiterated the dangers of excessive speeding and other risky behaviors on the road.
