In a significant crackdown on organized crime, the Queensland Police have arrested two men on serious charges including kidnapping, extortion, and drug trafficking as part of Operation Yankee Novi. The police action comes after a detailed investigation led by the Major and Organised Crime Squad Far Northern, alongside multiple Criminal Investigation Branches from Cairns, Tablelands, and Smithfield.

The operation was initiated on January 22 following reports of a woman being kidnapped and extorted at a Machans Beach property by a man known to her. One of the accused is allegedly linked to the Lone Wolf Outlaw Motorcycle Gang and is accused of trafficking methylamphetamine across the Far Northern region.

During the operation on January 28, police executed search warrants at several locations including Mareeba, Mount Molloy, Trinity Beach, and Machans Beach, uncovering a large haul of drugs including methylamphetamine, cocaine, and cannabis, as well as drug utensils and electronic devices.

A 31-year-old man from Mareeba faces multiple charges including trafficking in dangerous drugs and kidnapping, while a 36-year-old from Mount Molloy has been charged with extortion, drug possession, and kidnapping among other offenses. Both men were denied bail and have made court appearances, with further dates set for April and February.

This operation follows another recent police action, Operation Xray Rile, which also targeted members of the Lone Wolf gang, leading to significant arrests and charges related to drug trafficking and money laundering. Detective Acting Senior Sergeant Trent Odmark emphasized the ongoing commitment of the police to combat drug-related crimes and associated violence, urging the community to assist by reporting any suspicious activities.

The Queensland Police have released further resources including a video and transcript of the operation, and encourage the public to stay engaged through platforms like Policelink and Crime Stoppers for anonymous tips.
