In the early hours of January 28, 2026, the Townsville District Tactical Crime Squad apprehended a 29-year-old man from Kelso on multiple weapons-related charges. The arrest occurred in Garbutt, after police intercepted a silver Polestar 2 on Meenan Street at approximately 1:20 AM.

The operation was part of an ongoing investigation targeting individuals with outstanding warrants for alleged weapons offences. Upon being stopped, the suspect was asked to exit the vehicle to speak with officers. Although he initially complied, he allegedly attempted to escape on foot but was quickly apprehended. A search conducted subsequent to his arrest led to the discovery of a flick knife.

The suspect now faces several charges, including unlawful possession of a weapon, possession of a knife in a public place, and obstructing a police officer. He is scheduled to appear before the Townsville Magistrates Court later today.
