Police are currently investigating a violent burglary that occurred early this morning in Mermaid Waters, where a 79-year-old man was assaulted in his home. According to reports, the incident took place around 1:30 AM at a residence on Bacardi Court. A group of four individuals, who were wearing face coverings, forcibly entered the unit. The elderly resident, who was in his lounge chair at the time, was brutally attacked by the intruders with a golf club, resulting in multiple head injuries. The assailants proceeded to threaten the victim with a knife, stole his wallet, and took the keys to his 2018 Mercedes Benz before fleeing the scene in the stolen vehicle. Emergency services responded promptly to the scene of the crime, where they found the victim with a laceration to the back of his head and facial injuries. He was immediately transported to Gold Coast University Hospital for treatment. A crime scene has been established as investigations continue. The Queensland Police Service is urging anyone who sights the stolen red Mercedes Benz Cla220, bearing the Queensland registration plates “TRN000”, to contact the police immediately.
