In a dramatic encounter with law enforcement, two individuals were apprehended following a series of crimes involving a stolen vehicle, a homemade weapon, and illegal drugs in Townsville, Queensland. The incident, which occurred on January 18, involved a collision with a police car and another parked vehicle.

Police charged a 22-year-old man from Kirwan with 16 offenses after he and a 32-year-old woman from Deeragun allegedly led police on a chase in a Toyota Hilux, initially identified by POLAIR due to its false registration plates. The pursuit ended in a shopping center on Ross River Road, where the suspects were arrested after their vehicle rammed into a police cruiser and another car. Fortunately, there were no injuries reported from the incident.

Further investigations revealed that the Toyota Hilux had been stolen earlier this month from Currajong. A search of the vehicle led to the discovery of a homemade pistol, stolen property, and a small amount of drugs. The male driver faces multiple charges, including unlawful possession of weapons and dangerous drugs, and appeared in Townsville Magistrates Court on January 19. The female passenger is set to appear in court on February 4 facing similar charges.

The Queensland Police Service urges anyone with more information to come forward and contact Policelink or Crime Stoppers to assist with ongoing investigations.
