A fatal traffic incident in Garbutt on January 12 has resulted in the death of a 69-year-old woman, prompting an ongoing investigation by the Forensic Crash Unit. The accident occurred around 8:10 PM when a blue Toyota Yaris, driven by a 24-year-old man from Douglas, collided with the pedestrian on Meenan Street near Lockheed Street. The victim was immediately transported to Townsville University Hospital, where she later succumbed to her injuries. The driver, who did not sustain physical injuries, is currently cooperating with the police as they continue their inquiries.
