Queensland Police Service (QPS) is intensifying its road safety efforts following a tragic weekend that saw six fatalities on the state’s roads. The losses occurred just before Christmas, from December 19 to December 21, bringing the year’s total to 301 road deaths—an alarming rise from the previous year. Chief Superintendent Mark Wheeler of the Road Policing Group emphasized the importance of cautious driving during the holiday season. “Every decision on the road matters,” he stated, highlighting that the fatalities represent loved community members whose absence will be felt profoundly during the festive season and beyond. Wheeler urged Queenslanders to make safe choices while driving, stressing that these choices could be the difference between life and death. In response to the rising number of accidents, QPS launched Operation X-Ray Mistletoe on December 11. This high-visibility initiative aims to enforce road rules and ensure public safety. Additional efforts included Operation X-Ray Moffett in South Brisbane, where police conducted numerous roadside tests over two nights, leading to the apprehension of several offenders for drink and drug driving. The police’s dedication to maintaining road safety during the holiday season reflects a broader commitment to reducing traffic-related fatalities. Queensland Police also remind drivers of the ‘Fatal Five’ risky behaviors: speeding, drink and drug driving, not wearing seatbelts, fatigue, and distraction. By avoiding these behaviors, drivers can significantly contribute to making the roads safer for everyone this festive season. Post navigation Charges Laid in Massage Parlor Assaults
