In a poignant video call, Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy, while on an official visit in Berlin, communicated with several prominent Belarusian figures recently released from detention. The call featured interactions with civil and political personalities such as Maria Kalesnikava, Viktar Babaryka, Maksim Znak, Alyaksandr Feduta, Uladzimir Labkovich, and journalist Marina Zolotova, who expressed their profound gratitude towards the Ukrainian leadership for their significant role in facilitating their liberation.

This virtual meeting occurred after the release of 114 civilians on December 13, which included five Ukrainians detained in Belarus. The successful operation was coordinated with the help of the United States and involved substantial intelligence collaboration. During the call, President Zelenskyy emphasized Ukraine’s commitment to defending its sovereignty and the well-being of its people. He remarked, “Ukraine will continue to support everyone who helps us defend our independence and protect people’s lives.”

The dialogue also touched upon the ongoing conflict with Russia, with the freed Belarusians condemning the Belarusian regime’s actions and reaffirming their support for Ukraine. They pledged to assist Ukraine in its struggle against Russian aggression and to help disseminate pro-Ukrainian sentiments both within Belarus and internationally. President Zelenskyy highlighted the critical role of international solidarity and the importance of support from the Belarusian populace, especially since Belarus has been used as a launchpad for missiles into Ukraine since the Russian invasion began.
