In a proactive initiative to curb anti-social behavior and crime, Queensland Police have launched Operation Martello across the South Burnett region. This high-visibility enforcement effort, running from December 8 to December 14, aims to disrupt criminal activities by focusing on high-risk offenders and prevalent issues such as drug and property crimes.

Operation Martello brings together various specialist police units, including the State Flying Squad, tactical crime squads, and officers from local criminal investigation and child protection units. Southern Region Assistant Commissioner Matthew Vanderbyl emphasized that the operation is not only about enforcement but also about community engagement, ensuring that victims of crime feel supported and informed throughout the investigative process.

The operation will see intensified patrols, vehicle stops, and other compliance checks in known crime hotspots, seeking to deter and detect criminal activities before they escalate. The initiative builds on the district’s recent efforts, which led to the arrest of 86 individuals on 481 charges from July to November this year. With a blend of enforcement and community outreach, authorities are determined to maintain the South Burnett as a secure area for both residents and visitors.
