In a tragic incident on the Sunshine Coast, a 33-year-old woman from Wurtulla has died following an e-scooter crash in Aroona. The Queensland Police reported that the accident occurred around 12:30 PM on Sunday, December 7, on Beerburrum Street. Despite prompt response from emergency services and police, the woman succumbed to life-threatening injuries at Sunshine Coast University Hospital. Queensland Police are intensifying their call for witnesses, urging anyone with CCTV or dashcam footage to come forward. This accident marks the second e-scooter related fatality on the Sunshine Coast this year, raising concerns over the safety of Personal Mobility Devices (PMDs). Acting Inspector Brendan Davis emphasized the increasing number of PMD-related incidents, particularly with the upcoming Christmas holiday period. The Queensland Police Service continues to advocate for road safety, reminding PMD users to always wear helmets, obey road rules, and remain vigilant of their surroundings. They also highlighted the need for awareness of the ‘Fatal Five’ – speeding, impaired driving, seatbelt omissions, fatigue, and distraction – as key behaviors to avoid to reduce road fatalities. With road safety being a community responsibility, the police hope that sharing information on proper PMD usage will prevent future tragedies.
