Police in Coolangatta have charged a 21-year-old man following an assault incident involving a 12-year-old girl. The incident occurred yesterday morning, December 4, near Miles Street. According to the Queensland Police Service, the young girl was walking along a pedestrian path when she was allegedly grabbed by the shoulders by a stranger. The assailant fled on foot shortly after the incident.

The girl sustained minor bruising from the encounter. Police promptly initiated patrols in the surrounding area and apprehended the suspect at Kirra around 10:15 AM. The individual, a resident of Tweed Heads West, faces charges of assault occasioning bodily harm and is scheduled to appear before the Coolangatta Magistrates Court on January 12.
