In a significant operation targeting illegal firearms, Queensland Police have arrested three individuals and seized a substantial cache of weapons from a property in Upper Haughton. The raid, part of Operation Xray Gunwale, was conducted on November 18, resulting in the confiscation of nine firearms, two barrels, 1800 rounds of ammunition, and various firearm components. The operation was spearheaded by the Major and Organised Crime Squad, with assistance from local officers. Among the seized firearms, five had been reported as either lost or stolen, highlighting the significant breakthrough in tracking illegal weapons within the community. A 38-year-old man from Upper Haughton faces multiple charges, including possession of tainted property, dangerous drugs, and unlawful possession of more than ten weapons. He is expected to appear in Townsville Magistrates Court soon. Additionally, a 26-year-old from Mount Louisa was charged with child neglect, drug trafficking, weapon trafficking, and unlawful supply of weapons. He awaits his court appearance on December 5. A third suspect, a 38-year-old from Sarina, charged with unlawful supply of weapons, appeared in Mackay Magistrates Court on December 1. Detective Acting Senior Sergeant James Lucas emphasized the operation’s impact on community safety, stating that every unlawful weapon seized is a step towards a safer community. He assured that specialist resources would continue to be deployed to curb the possession and supply of illegal firearms. Queensland Police urge anyone with information about suspicious activities to report to Policelink or Crime Stoppers anonymously.
