NASA astronaut Chris Williams, along with Roscosmos cosmonauts Sergey Kud-Sverchkov and Sergei Mikaev, successfully arrived at the International Space Station (ISS) on Thursday, November 27, 2025. The trio embarked on their journey aboard the Soyuz MS-28 spacecraft, launching from the Baikonur Cosmodrome in Kazakhstan at 4:27 a.m. EST and docking just three hours later at the station’s Rassvet module. This significant event marks the expansion of the station’s crew to ten members for the forthcoming two weeks. The newcomers were launched into space by a Soyuz rocket and after a swift journey of two orbits around Earth, they docked seamlessly at the ISS. Post arrival, they were greeted by the existing members of Expedition 73, enhancing the collaborative spirit aboard the orbiting laboratory. The mission is not just a routine crew rotation. During his stay, Williams is set to engage in a series of scientific research and technological demonstrations. These include installing a new modular workout system designed for long-duration missions, supporting experiments that aim to enhance cryogenic fuel efficiency, and growing semiconductor crystals in microgravity. These activities are geared towards advancing human space exploration and deriving benefits for life back on Earth. Expedition 74 is officially scheduled to commence on December 8, following the departure of several members from the current crew. A change of command ceremony is also planned on December 7, where leadership of the station will transition to NASA astronaut Mike Fincke. This event, along with the hatch opening, will be broadcast live, allowing space enthusiasts to partake in these monumental moments virtually through platforms like NASA+, Amazon Prime, and YouTube.
