Gold Coast police are intensifying their efforts to enhance road safety for e-mobility device users through Operation X-Ray Surety. This campaign targets dangerous and non-compliant use of electric bikes, scooters, and motorcycles to reduce injuries and promote responsible riding behaviors. As e-mobility devices gain popularity in the city, authorities have noticed an increase in the use of unregistered, unlicensed, or illegally modified devices, which can lead to severe accidents due to their high-speed capabilities. Superintendent Peter Miles emphasized the importance of adhering to the laws, stating, “These devices are not toys. They are powerful and fast. Riding unregistered or modified devices, or riding without a license or helmet, places everyone at risk.” The police’s approach combines education, community engagement, and enforcement. Officers are actively monitoring helmet compliance, speed, and overall rider behavior. Additionally, police are engaging with the youth and local schools to educate them about the rules and risks associated with e-mobility devices. Senior Constable Michael Coleman recently conducted sessions in Ormeau, reinforcing safe riding practices. The ongoing operations underline the Queensland Police Service’s commitment to reducing road casualties by targeting the ‘Fatal Five’: speeding, drink and drug driving, not wearing seatbelts, fatigue, and distraction. The community is encouraged to report any suspicious activities or non-compliance to authorities to help maintain safety on the roads.
