A tragic traffic accident in Bushland Beach, Townsville, has claimed the life of a 76-year-old man and left two others seriously injured. The incident occurred on the evening of November 23, involving a collision between a white Mazda utility and two motorcycles just past a local roundabout.

The Queensland Police Service’s Forensic Crash Unit is actively investigating the circumstances that led to the fatal crash at the intersection of Mount Low Parkway and Lionel Turner Drive around 6:08 PM. Initial findings suggest the Mazda collided with a silver BMW motorcycle and an orange CFMOTO motorcycle.

The BMW motorcycle was carrying two South Townsville residents; the 76-year-old male rider died at the scene despite immediate emergency response, while his 70-year-old female passenger sustained serious injuries and was rushed to Townsville University Hospital. The 22-year-old male rider of the CFMOTO, from Aitkenvale, was also seriously injured and transported to the hospital.

The driver of the Mazda, a 28-year-old from Mount Low, was unharmed and is cooperating with police investigations. Authorities are urging anyone who witnessed the crash or has relevant dashcam footage to come forward to assist with the inquiry.

This accident highlights ongoing concerns regarding road safety, prompting reminders from the Queensland Police Service about the dangers of the ‘Fatal Five’: speeding, impaired driving, not using seatbelts, fatigue, and distraction. The community is called to prioritize safety and contribute to reducing road fatalities.
