Queensland police have apprehended two individuals linked to the Mongols Outlaw Motorcycle Gang (OMCG) in Cairns as part of a strategic operation named ‘Operation Victor Jenga’. This initiative, led by the Major and Organised Crime Squad (MOCS) and supported by local forces, was launched in August 2023 to counteract the activities of this notorious gang and its associates. Early morning raids on November 20 led to the execution of search warrants across four locations, including Kewarra Beach, Mount Sheridan, Holloways Beach, and Cairns City. The operations yielded a significant haul of cocaine, dexamphetamine, steroids, cash, various electronic devices, and gang-related paraphernalia. One of the properties in Holloways Beach was allegedly used as a meeting point for the gang members. A 37-year-old man from Kewarra Beach faces multiple charges including possession of dangerous drugs and property suspected to be acquired through criminal activities. He is currently held in custody and is scheduled for a court hearing on December 19 at the Cairns Magistrates Court. Alongside him, a 33-year-old woman from the same locality was charged with similar drug possession offenses and is set to appear in court on February 3. Detective Senior Sergeant Brad Grace emphasized the police’s commitment to dismantling OMCG activities in the region, stating a zero-tolerance policy towards gang-related violence and criminality. The ongoing efforts reflect the police’s dedication to maintaining safety and order, ensuring that such groups find no harbor in Cairns or the broader Far North region. Authorities continue to urge the public to report any suspicious activities or information related to crime anonymously through Crime Stoppers or Policelink, emphasizing the importance of community cooperation in these investigative efforts.
