A devastating traffic accident early on November 19, 2025, has claimed the lives of two individuals, including a young child, and left another critically injured in Rockhampton, Queensland. The incident involved two trucks colliding on the Bruce Highway near Canoona, leading to significant disruptions and an ongoing police investigation.

According to the Queensland Police Service (QPS), a 21-year-old woman and a two-year-old girl, both from Koongal, were pronounced dead at the scene. The driver of the Freightliner truck, a 24-year-old man also from Koongal, was airlifted to a hospital with life-threatening injuries. The other vehicle, a Mercedes-Benz truck, was operated by a 24-year-old man from Toongabbie, NSW, who sustained minor injuries.

The Bruce Highway was closed for the majority of the day as the Forensic Crash Unit examined the scene. The QPS has appealed to the public for any information or footage that could assist their ongoing investigation.

In response to this tragedy, the Queensland Police have reiterated the importance of road safety, highlighting the ‘Fatal Five’ behaviors that significantly increase the risk of serious accidents: speeding, impaired driving, not wearing seatbelts, fatigue, and distraction. They continue to urge drivers to adhere to safety guidelines to prevent further loss and injury on the roads.
