NASA has announced the upcoming launch of astronaut Chris Williams and cosmonauts Sergey Kud-Sverchkov and Sergei Mikaev aboard the Roscosmos Soyuz MS-28 spacecraft. Scheduled for liftoff on November 27, 2025, from the Baikonur Cosmodrome in Kazakhstan, this mission marks a significant step in international space collaboration as part of Expedition 73. The trio will embark on their journey to the International Space Station (ISS) at 4:27 a.m. EST, joining an international crew already aboard the station. This includes NASA astronauts Mike Fincke, Zena Cardman, and Jonny Kim, along with JAXA astronaut Kimiya Yui and several Roscosmos cosmonauts. The spacecraft is set to dock at the ISS after a rapid two-orbit, three-hour flight, enhancing the station’s capabilities for scientific research. Throughout their estimated eight-month stay, the crew will engage in various scientific activities. Notably, Williams will participate in experiments to improve cryogenic fuel efficiency and grow semiconductor crystals, which are vital for technological advancements in space. Additionally, the mission will test a new modular workout system designed for long-duration space missions. This expedition not only continues the legacy of the ISS but also plays a critical role in preparing for future deep space exploration missions, including those to the Moon and Mars under NASA’s Artemis program. NASA will provide comprehensive live coverage of the launch, rendezvous, docking, and hatch opening through NASA+, Amazon Prime, and YouTube, allowing global audiences to partake in this monumental event.
