Police in Queensland have successfully apprehended a 39-year-old man from Burleigh Heads following two attempted armed robberies on the Gold Coast. The incidents, which occurred back-to-back on November 16, led to swift police action, resulting in charges of attempted armed robbery. The first incident unfolded around 12:40 pm at a licensed venue on Santa Maria Court, Burleigh Waters. A female employee reported being threatened by the suspect, who was armed with a knife. The man allegedly demanded money before fleeing in a silver Subaru Forester. Fortunately, the employee did not sustain any physical injuries. Approximately half an hour later, the same suspect is reported to have targeted another business located on the Gold Coast Highway at Mermaid Beach. Here, he threatened a male employee with the knife and repeated his demands for money before escaping once again in the Subaru. Detectives from the Gold Coast Criminal Investigation Branch were quick to act, spotting the Subaru just five minutes later at the intersection of Hedges Avenue and Montana Road. The suspect was then taken into custody. The accused is scheduled to appear at the Southport Magistrates Court today, November 17. The Queensland Police encourage anyone with additional information to come forward and assist by contacting Policelink or reporting anonymously through Crime Stoppers.
