President Volodymyr Zelenskyy announced the commencement of Ukraine’s Winter Support Program today, which saw an overwhelming response with half a million applications received within the first two hours. The program, designed to assist Ukrainians in need, promises a stipend of 1,000 hryvnias per individual, applicable to both adults and children. The funds, which are available for use through June of the next year, can be allocated for utility bills, medicine, local products, and books. Additionally, recipients have the option to donate the money to volunteer groups and foundations that support the Ukrainian military. Applications must be submitted via the Diia app or at Ukrposhta locations by December 24, with the assurance that the funds will be disbursed within ten days of application. Last year, the program benefited over 14 million citizens, and similar large-scale impacts are anticipated this year. The Ukrainian government has guaranteed full funding for the program and is prepared to provide additional support if necessary. President Zelenskyy also noted the stability of the application system despite the initial surge, and expressed gratitude towards Ukrainian banks for their role in facilitating the process and providing guidance to applicants. Moreover, President Zelenskyy confirmed that the winter support will not affect eligibility for other subsidies and highlighted other measures being taken to support citizens during the winter, such as fixed prices for household electricity and gas and increased reserves for emergency repairs.
