Early this morning, a fatal traffic incident in Point Vernon resulted in the death of a 57-year-old pedestrian and the arrest of a 20-year-old man. Queensland Police charged the young driver with multiple offenses, including dangerous operation of a vehicle causing death. According to police reports, the accident occurred around 4:30 AM when a silver Hyundai IX35 hatchback collided with the pedestrian at the intersection of Banksia Street and Esplanade. The driver allegedly fled the scene without providing necessary aid to the victim, who was pronounced dead at the location. The suspect’s vehicle was later found at a residence in Urraween at approximately 5 AM. The Urraween man now faces charges not only related to the traffic incident but also for drug and weapon offenses. He is scheduled for a court appearance tomorrow in the Gympie Magistrates Court. Authorities are urging anyone who may have video footage or information regarding the Hyundai’s movements in the Pialba and Point Vernon areas between 3 AM and 4:30 AM to contact the police.
