Queensland Police have intensified their investigation into a fatal traffic incident that claimed the life of a 3-year-old boy in Stapylton, Gold Coast. The tragic accident occurred in the early hours of October 25 along Burnside Road, involving a 22-year-old woman, a 24-year-old man, and two young boys aged three and one. According to police reports, the vehicle crashed around 5 am. The 3-year-old suffered severe head injuries and was rushed to Beenleigh Police Station by a witness, where he was later pronounced dead. The other occupants were found at a Beenleigh residence approximately an hour and a half later, with the 1-year-old boy taken to the hospital for assessment and later released. The ongoing probe, dubbed Operation Xray Grid, has mobilized various units including the Gold Coast Criminal Investigation Branch and Child Protection and Investigation Unit. After three weeks of meticulous forensic and mechanical inspections, investigators have determined that the 22-year-old woman from Labrador was driving at the time of the incident. Authorities continue to appeal to the public for any information or footage that might assist in the ongoing inquiries. The Queensland Police Service remains committed to enhancing road safety and reducing fatalities by urging drivers to avoid the ‘Fatal Five’ risky behaviors: speeding, impaired driving, not using seatbelts, driving while fatigued, and being distracted. Those with relevant information are encouraged to contact Policelink or report anonymously via Crime Stoppers. The police emphasize that road safety is a collective responsibility and critical to preventing such devastating incidents in the future.
