In a significant crackdown on firearm and property crimes, the Dalby Criminal Investigation Branch has successfully charged a 26-year-old man from Tara, Queensland. This arrest is part of a broader, intelligence-driven operation named Operation Whiskey Firestorm, aimed at enhancing community safety and addressing the illegal firearm circulation in the region.

On November 12, around 3:30 pm, detectives alongside the South West Tactical Crime Squad executed a search warrant at a residence on Roaches Road in Tara. The raid led to the discovery of three stolen firearms, a 2018 Toyota Landcruiser, and a Polaris buggy, along with ammunition, stolen power tools, and drug paraphernalia. The uncovered Toyota Landcruiser and Polaris buggy had been reported stolen earlier in the month from Lockington and Clermont respectively.

The accused faces multiple charges including nine counts of entering premises and committing an indictable offence, three counts of possessing category H weapons, and various other related offenses. He is slated to appear before the Dalby Magistrates Court.

Operation Whiskey Firestorm extends beyond immediate arrests, focusing on a coordinated statewide response to illicit firearm offenses and related violent crimes. This approach aligns with the uptick in firearm-related crimes in 2024, prompting stringent audits and regional operations to enforce safety and ownership regulations among licensed firearm owners.

Detective Inspector Andrew Trenerry emphasized the operation’s commitment to community safety and the zero-tolerance policy towards illegal firearms. The Queensland Police Service urges the public to report any illegal firearm activities, as community cooperation is vital in curbing firearm-related offenses.
