Europol, in collaboration with Moldovan and Ukrainian police, has recently advanced a significant war crimes investigation targeting Russian paramilitary groups, leading to the identification of 654 suspects. This operation, conducted on October 29, 2025, involved extensive searches and the seizure of incriminating materials across Moldova and Ukraine. The suspects, linked to the Wagner and Redut private military companies, are accused of participating in severe war crimes during Russia’s aggressive actions in Ukraine. These crimes include sexual violence, civilian executions, and the execution of prisoners of war, with nationals from multiple countries, including Ukraine and Moldova, implicated. During the operation, authorities executed 70 house searches and confiscated various items, including firearms, uniforms, and electronic equipment. This evidence supports allegations of these individuals participating in combat operations not only in Ukraine but also in the Democratic Republic of the Congo. Europol has played a crucial role in this investigation by facilitating information exchange and providing analytical support. This collaboration underscores the ongoing efforts to address serious crimes and enhance security operations within the EU and its neighboring regions. Moreover, the partnerships with Ukraine and Moldova through operational agreements have been pivotal in aligning and coordinating law enforcement efforts across borders.
