A man has been extradited from Victoria to Queensland to face a charge of grievous bodily harm dating back to 2008, according to Queensland Police. This development follows a prolonged investigation by the Acacia Ridge Criminal Investigations Branch, which has been ongoing since the incident was first reported in 2022.

The case involves a 39-year-old man from Victoria who allegedly assaulted a 38-year-old woman, causing permanent significant damage to her eye. The incident, which occurred at an Oxley address, involved the pair who were in a relationship at the time. Despite the lapse of nearly 15 years, Queensland Police have emphasized their commitment to pursuing justice for victims of domestic violence, regardless of when the offense occurred.

The extradition process began after Victorian Police arrested the suspect in Werribee on October 28. Following a court appearance at the Sunshine Magistrates Court, the extradition was granted, leading to his transfer to Queensland. The man appeared before the Brisbane Magistrates Court on October 30, where he faced the charges.

Acting Senior Sergeant Denis Silk of the Acacia Ridge Criminal Investigations Branch highlighted the police’s dedication to investigating domestic violence cases. “There is no place for domestic violence – and police are committed to continue taking strong action against anyone found to commit offenses of this serious nature,” he stated. The Queensland Police Service continues to urge anyone with information on suspicious activities or crimes to come forward and report to authorities.
