Police have charged a 42-year-old Mount Gravatt East man following a grave traffic incident in Yeerongpilly, Brisbane, that left a pedestrian with life-threatening injuries. The incident occurred just after 10 AM on October 9, when it is alleged that the driver’s white hatchback struck a 33-year-old male pedestrian on Fairfield Road and then fled the scene.

The Queensland Police Service (QPS) reported that the victim was promptly transported to a hospital due to the severity of his injuries. Following investigations, the driver was apprehended and has been charged with the dangerous operation of a motor vehicle causing grievous bodily harm. He is scheduled to face Brisbane Magistrates Court on October 10.

In light of the incident, QPS has issued an appeal for witnesses and is specifically seeking any relevant dashcam footage recorded between 9:30 AM and 10:05 AM on the day of the accident. Community members with any information are encouraged to come forward and assist by contacting Policelink or Crime Stoppers anonymously.

The Queensland Police underscored their ongoing commitment to road safety and reducing traffic-related fatalities. They highlighted the importance of avoiding the ‘Fatal Five’ hazardous behaviors, including speeding, impaired driving, non-use of seatbelts, driving while fatigued, and distracted driving.
