In a bid to enhance road safety, the Cairns Highway Patrol has launched an educational initiative targeting Personal Mobility Device (PMD) riders during the school holidays. The Queensland Police Service (QPS) is conducting high-visibility patrols across Cairns suburbs, focusing on educating riders about safety rules and enforcing regulations where necessary. The initiative, which sees police partnering with local schools, aims to inform young riders about the importance of adhering to PMD guidelines. These include mandatory helmet use, speed limits, and the prohibition of using phones while riding. Senior Constable Dan Whitling emphasized the vulnerability of PMD riders, urging compliance to prevent injuries. Recent enforcement actions highlight the ongoing risks. On October 2, a 27-year-old woman received a penalty for riding without a helmet on Mulgrave Road, while another rider was cautioned for prohibited road use and wearing headphones on Aeroglen Drive. The police’s proactive measures underscore their commitment to preventing accidents and promoting safe riding practices. For detailed e-scooter regulations and penalties, the Queensland Government’s StreetSmarts initiative offers comprehensive resources. The public is encouraged to report any suspicious activities to Policelink or Crime Stoppers. Post navigation Man Charged in Maroochydore Assault
