Deputy Head of the Presidential Office of Ukraine, Ihor Zhovkva, recently convened with parliamentary leaders from several European countries to discuss Ukraine’s accession to the European Union. The meeting, which included representatives from Denmark, Ireland, Cyprus, Latvia, Lithuania, Luxembourg, Finland, and Sweden, was led by European Parliament Vice-President Esteban Pons.

The primary focus was on advancing Ukraine’s path toward EU membership, which Zhovkva emphasized as a critical component of the nation’s security framework. He noted that the President of Ukraine, Volodymyr Zelenskyy, and European leaders are aligned in this vision, viewing EU membership as essential to achieving sustainable peace in Ukraine. A clear timeline for Ukraine’s membership is sought to solidify this commitment.

Beyond security benefits, the discussions highlighted the mutual economic advantages of Ukraine joining the EU. Zhovkva expressed gratitude to the nations supporting the PURL initiative and urged for further assistance. He also acknowledged the readiness to offer loans and investments to bolster Ukraine’s defense capabilities through the SAFE instrument.
