In a significant breakthrough for law enforcement in Queensland, a 40-year-old man from Mount Isa has been charged with 75 child sex offences. The charges, which include indecent treatment, making child exploitation material, and grooming, stem from a protracted investigation by the Mount Isa Child Protection and Investigation Unit (CPIU).

The accused, whose crimes allegedly span a period from 2000 to 2025, was apprehended following Operation Xray Wolfturn. This extensive investigation by the CPIU culminated in the man being charged with offences against five minors. He is currently remanded in custody and is scheduled to reappear in the Mount Isa Magistrates Court on October 20.

Detective Acting Senior Sergeant Shauna McIvor, Officer in Charge of the Mount Isa CPIU, praised the courage of the victims who came forward. “Our team has relentlessly investigated these offences to hold the alleged offender to account,” she stated. “Thanks to the bravery of these children, we’ve arrested and charged a man, bringing him before the courts.”

The Queensland Police Service urges anyone who has experienced sexual assault to seek help and report the crime. There are multiple ways to report such incidents, including online, over the phone, or in person at a police station. For confidential support, individuals can contact the State-wide Sexual Assault Helpline or 1800 RESPECT for 24-hour help.
