Ukraine’s Bold Counteroffensive Gains

Ukraine’s President Volodymyr Zelenskyy announced significant progress in the country’s ongoing military counteroffensive against Russian forces, particularly in the Donetsk region, during an address on September 19, 2025. The President highlighted the strategic victories in the Pokrovsk and Dobropillia sectors, where Ukrainian forces have dealt heavy losses to the Russian military and captured numerous prisoners of war.

In his address, President Zelenskyy acknowledged the efforts of various Ukrainian military units, including the 79th and 82nd Air Assault Brigades and several assault regiments, for their roles in these operations. He also emphasized the importance of defending positions in Kupyansk and surrounding areas, while indicating that Ukraine plans to launch new deep strikes in retaliation to Russian actions.

Beyond military operations, Zelenskyy focused on Ukraine’s strategic weapons production and export plans. He outlined intentions to boost domestic weapons manufacturing in collaboration with international partners, ensuring Ukraine’s defense needs are met through controlled exports. The President detailed a plan to introduce three new export platforms for partnerships with the United States, European allies, and other global partners, to enhance Ukraine’s production capabilities.

In a move to strengthen military rights and protections, Zelenskyy announced the establishment of the Office of the Military Ombudsman, appointing Olha Reshetylova as the first ombudsman. This initiative aims to ensure the protection of soldiers’ rights and fortify the Ukrainian Defense Forces at all levels. Zelenskyy expressed gratitude to the parliamentarians and all those contributing to Ukraine’s defense efforts, underscoring the nation’s resolve and unity in the face of ongoing conflict.
