In a recent development, the Australian Communications and Media Authority (ACMA) has determined that Channel Seven Sydney Pty Limited violated classification rules through the broadcast of a fishing show, which included inappropriate comments about domestic violence. The program in question, Step Outside with Paul Burt, aired on 7mate in March 2025, and was found to breach the Commercial Television Industry Code of Practice for ‘PG’ content. These rules stipulate that themes of domestic conflict must be handled with care. ACMA’s investigation revealed that the remarks, intended as humor, were unsuitable for a PG audience expecting light entertainment. Carolyn Lidgerwood, an ACMA member, expressed concern over the content, stating that the comments were disturbing and lacked the necessary caution for such sensitive topics. Lidgerwood emphasized the importance of warning viewers about the program’s themes, which Channel Seven failed to do. In response to a complaint, Channel Seven has issued a public apology and removed the program from its 7mate and 7plus platforms. The network initially relied on the production company’s assurance of compliance with the Code, but the ACMA has clarified that licensees cannot outsource their compliance responsibilities. The ACMA is evaluating potential enforcement actions and will announce the results of this decision once finalized. Post navigation Tomahawk Seized in Brisbane Patrol Police Warn of Online Dangers
