In a significant move to bolster European support for Ukraine, European Parliament President Roberta Metsola officially inaugurated a permanent office in Kyiv on September 17, 2025. This new establishment, co-located with the EU Delegation, symbolizes the European Parliament’s ongoing commitment to Ukraine amidst the ongoing conflict with Russia. During the inauguration, President Metsola addressed the Verkhovna Rada, emphasizing the European Parliament’s dedication to supporting Ukraine’s sovereignty and its path toward EU integration. “The European Parliament will remain firmly at your side, every step of the way, until peace is secured,” she affirmed, reinforcing the political alliance. The decision to open a permanent office follows a renewed Memorandum of Understanding between the European Parliament and the Verkhovna Rada of Ukraine, signed in November 2023. This development strengthens a partnership formalized in 2015 and is seen as a key step in preparing Ukraine’s political institutions for eventual EU membership. Since the onset of the Russian invasion in February 2022, the European Parliament has implemented several measures to support Ukraine, including capacity building and direct exchanges between parliamentary committees. The inauguration of this office marks a new chapter in the EU’s unwavering support for Ukraine’s independence and territorial integrity.
