The Australian Communications and Media Authority (ACMA) has determined that the Marty Sheargold Show violated broadcast decency rules due to derogatory comments about women’s sports. The investigation revealed that four licensees, including Triple M Sydney Pty Ltd and others, breached the Commercial Radio Code of Practice by airing sexist and demeaning language. The broadcasts included mocking remarks about the Australian women’s national football team, the Matildas, equating their behavior to that of “Year 10 girls,” and further derogatory comments involving the host’s genitalia. Authority Member Carolyn Lidgerwood condemned the language, stating that it surpassed acceptable standards of decency and was offensive to a reasonable listener. In response to the findings, Southern Cross Austereo (SCA), the parent company of Triple M, has canceled the show and parted ways with host Marty Sheargold. The ACMA is now contemplating enforcement actions against the involved licensees and will announce the outcomes upon finalization.
